Ulidia Girls Get A Taste For Rugby

Year 10 pupils at Ulidia Integrated College were keen to start rugby training after hearing about the Women’s World Cup in Paris. They were inspired by Ireland women’s, number 12, Grace Davitt who came into Ulidia last Thursday to talk about the sport that she loves.

The girls attended Carrickfergus Rugby Football Club on Wednesday 15th October to get a taste for rugby skills and play with other local schools, such as Carrickfergus College and Belfast High School. This has been organised by Gary Hunter and the Ulster Branch to encourage more girls to try rugby and possibly establish a Carrickfergus Ladies’ Rugby junior team. Carrickfergus Rugby will start junior training on Monday nights at the club.

Grace Davitt brought her 2013 Six Nations medal and her 2014 World Cup participant’s medal into Ulidia. The girls were very impressed and hopefully they may go on to play rugby and possibly play for Ulster and Ireland.
