31 May Green Day 2016!
On Wednesday 22 June 2016, all students in Year 8 and 9 are taking part in a whole day event to promote environmental awareness on a local, national, and global scale. The event will encourage learners to make positive decisions regarding their environment, leading to sustainable use of resources.
During the day, students will be given the opportunity to attend workshops led by the Ulster Wildlife Trust, ISL recycling, Eco Schools NI, Trocaire and Tidy Northern Ireland. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in environmental and conservation activities within the school, including fair trade cookery, bird feeder making, litter picking and planting of flowers and trees. During lunchtime there will be games to participate in which promote a healthy lifestyle.
At break time, judging of the ‘wackiest wellies’ will take place: Students are encouraged to bring their decorated wellies to the main hall for judging!
In addition to their school uniform, students are encouraged to wear a ‘green’ item such as one green sock or a green hair band; prizes will be given for the most creative green addition to the school uniform on the day!
I hope that your child enjoys the activities that are planned for them.
