18 Jun Ulidia Integrated College Golf Open
The 2015 season saw the golf club grow its numbers to the largest it has been to date. It was a pleasure to be joined on our weekly outings by three new senior players; Callum Hardy, Ryan Hardy and Ross Nicholson and four new juniors; Jake Gillespie, Ryan McNally, Ryan McKenzie and Mark McCourt. Over the seven weeks the pupils learnt to adapt their games to a range of conditions which ultimately improved their golf. Often we were playing in conditions similar to those experienced at the Irish Open but thankfully enjoyed PGA tour weather for the last two weeks.
On Monday 15th June we had our traditional Ryder Cup themed day. The match between Team Dunlop and Team Spratt had its usual friendly rivalry but was played as always in an atmosphere of fair play and fun. After every player’s points were counted up and added together the eventual winners were Team Dunlop.
The day also marked the last counting round of the league which produces the Ulidia Integrated Open Winner. Going into the final counting week the difference between 1st and 2nd place was one point. A further difference of one point existed between third and fourth and so it was all to play for.
Mark Hill (Year 13) emerged as the eventual winner, Ryan McNamara (Year 13) was second and Danny Magill (Year 14) was third. In addition Danny Magill won nearest to the pin on the seventh hole, hitting his ball within 11 foot. Daniel Leeming got the longest drive on the 17th hole.
As always it was a pleasure for Mr Dunlop and I to be involved in this club.
I would encourage any pupils that are interested in taking part in the club to practice over the summer and work towards getting a GUI handicap if they do not have one.
May I take this opportunity to wish two of our original members, Chris McCourt and Danny Magill all the best with their future as they are leaving us this year.
Yours in Sport,
Mr Spratt
