10 Feb Ulidia Students Rise To The Eco Challenge!
Schools in the Carrickfergus area were invited to enter the ECO CHALLENGE competition to bid for funding, in order to implement an eco-project. A group of Geography students from Year 11 took up the challenge and developed a business plan for an App about energy. When completed, the App will be available to download for free. The Year 11 students in the team are Jamie Davidson, Darcy Burrows, Grace Carson and Blake McAllister.
The team worked together with ISL recycling to create their business plan. ISL were chosen to work with the team as Ulidia has a close working relationship with the company, which has been built up over the years by working together to achieve ‘zero waste’ status. As part of the research stage for the plan, the team were given a guided tour of the ISL factory in Mallusk.
The team visited the power station in November to pitch their business plan to a panel of ‘dragons’, which questioned the team and examined their ideas closely. The team did extremely well and were awarded £4,000 in funding to implement their plan.
The team are very excited about this award and are working towards putting the plan together. The Geography department at Ulidia Integrated College would like to congratulate the students involved for their enthusiasm and for the excellent efforts putting this plan together. Mrs Patterson Head of Geography said that, ‘this team of four students have worked extremely hard, demonstrating enthusiasm, and a mature outlook at all stages of this process, they are a pleasure to work with’.
